Re: Watercooler Chat
Cool topic! I've been meaning to make more "slice of Unity life" posts. I already have one on the bottom quintile I can happily refer you to, and I have one on what Praetorians are like...but I could make more if you are interested.
My understanding is that the Iron Republic is not perfectly efficient at squelching rebels. Considering the forces at their flanks (Trilat, EEF, ect), it is easy to imagine that there are sectors of space where the law might not be as well-enforced. Heck, last season of the space game Ironbane made it his life's work to do crazy pirate stuff, and it took the Iron Republic some time and many allies to shut him down. There may also have been some techno-deamon infestations, but that is besides the point.
There are many "rebellion" style games waiting to be played out in that part of space, and with enough money anyone can become a stockholder. Just ask Su Maehl .
As for the Unity, they are incredibly Libertarian. My goal when making the faction was to have a "hive" structure which imitates nature, as opposed to one which imitates the classic monarchy system. So, there are no leaders. Hell, even Prime is just a particularly respected scientist. My thought in making the Unity was to make the ultimate social networking site which all members are plugged into all the time. Classic Greek democracy style. Rules are made by consensus, and influence is gained through merit (or persuasiveness).
In a Unity campaign, there are a few fun types of things to explore. For instance...there was a period of time when the Unity was heavily demonic, and I set up a bunch of "Ordered Hellscape" space-stations which have gone missing. Any of those stations would be full of insane people being egged on by Unity demons, and any one of them generates enough Shadow-energy to fuel the mad schemes of someone with a particularly villainous bent. The Hunters (Evil zela-cyborgs) have also gone incredibly rouge, and act as a corrupting influence in the Unity. Trying to find them and stop them from bringing some horrible conspiracy to fruition. Or, you can have a campaign where you try to liberate Iron Republic wage-slaves.
I hope that helps somewhat. If you want more details, please feel free to let me know .

Yep indeed, took the IR, the Trilat, and the Free Systems together to bring down Magnus Ironsbane, the three greatest powers in the game to bring down a pirate who had a fleet of light cruisers and a single dreadnought Plus a few WMDs

Hey, if a bunch of Yankee Doodles with pitchforks and torches can send the red coats packing by making fun of their bad teeth, then anything is possible.

Re: Watercooler Chat
Heh heh, though without using WMDs Ironsbane's record wasn't the best, he lost more then he won in a straight up fight, after all, most people tended to have stronger ships heh. His Pirate Light Frigate was a colony ship with slightly upgraded guns, an armed freighter basically heh.
At the time it was interesting to see so many going after him while Warmonger's forces were running rampant heh

Century old man! Yay!
Does this mean that he's an antique now? Can I sell him?

They are actually in the clearance bin at prices so low you would think we were bandits in desperate need of sustenance.

Re: Watercooler Chat
Thanks to everyone who is playing my campaign so far! I've really been enjoying writing this. I am totally new at running this sort of thing though, and I am using a slightly different format to describe battles. Any feedback is much appreciated, as I am trying to make the events as clear as possible while maintaining some "fog of war".

Re: Watercooler Chat
Dear friends,
I will be taking over EEF faction for the next few weeks, as FieldMarshallStrykker has suffered the untimely loss of his father. Our hearts and condolences go out to him in this time of memorial.
As we move into the future I am excited to play in all your campaigns, so get thinking on how you'd like to expand the universe and your own faction through these campaigns before Space Part 4 starts.
And most importantly thank you for being here as friends and as a community for us.
We love you guys.
Give a big hug to those people you love, we only got each other for a short time in this life,
Brand
