The hour was late and not a single sound was heard on the above ground levels of the Sacrenine estate, below however was an entirely different matter. Past the insulating walls and heavy vault doors that kept sound from going in or out, one would hear shouts of indignation and strings of curses that would make your ears turn a bit red and chuckle at the expense of the person on the receiving end.

If you traveled down those dark corridors beneath the estate, you would find a sight that would seem quite puzzling if you didn't know better. In a room connected to the Black Chamber's Vault Door, was Orleos Sacrenine, hunched over a stone altar adorned with golden candelabra's and odd runes. Atop the altar was a faintly glowing crystalline ball that floated a few feet above a velvet throw pillow. Every now and then, tendrils of shadow would creep from the tips of his outstretched fingers and seep into the sphere beneath them, the sphere glowed dimmer, before coming back to full brightness.

Words echoed out from the sphere a moment later, "I've told you once and I'll tell you again, all you have to do is let me out of here and I'll snap your neck you little shit-faced son of a Quall'N Whore! I swear on the name of Black Claw I will tear off whatever pitiful excuse you use to call yourself a man and feed it to the rats! Your head will be my pride and joy when I mount it on the walls of the Aerie you pi-"

Orleos allowed the sphere to fall back onto the pillow and all fell quiet, he rubbed his temples and sighed in annoyance. The K'ias Tsogari proved to be quite resistant in more than one way, they were quite fluid in mind, body, and soul. It was not unexpected, he had dealt with K'ias in the past, but it certainly proved to be an annoying factor. He sat down on the chaise in the corner and looked at a similar sphere on the shelf next to it. 'He was easy compared to this one. If only everyone possessed minds as straight and narrow as his is.' With a snort, he got up and left the chamber, unaware of two sets of eyes burning into the back of his head.

He walked to his laboratory where the Tsogari were currently being poked and prodded in his research for the breaking process, and walked over to Chief Necrotech Glutonheim. Glutonheim, wore a classic lederhosen, was short, balding, dramatic, and disgustingly fat man who wore a monocle in one eye, spoke with a German accent in extreme falsetto, and could never seem to keep his hands out of the pouch of sweets at his waist, but the man was no doubt a genius.

Currently, he was observing a sample beneath a microscope, while a centrifuge spun away noisily. Without even looking up from his work, "Good evening, Herr Direktor. Vill you be joining us in ze research zis evening? No? Vell zen, you are no doubt 'ere for ze report! It iz on ze table as usual! Good evening, Herr Direktor!"

From there the man walked further into the back of the lab without so much as a backwards glance. Orleos's eye twitched in annoyance, some of Layne's men were certainly 'eccentric', but they produced results, especially if the report was anything to go by. Walking out of the laboratory, he noticed Eante waiting for him, without missing a beat she fell into stride beside him.

She waited until he had finished browsing the report before addressing him, "Stella Ransom from the office of the Colony General, of EEF High Command, sent a message addressed to you Director, they issued an ultimatum for the return of the Tsogari. They will be dispatching an SAV to dock here and you are expected to comply within 20 minutes of it's touchdown, or else force will be used to take back the prisoners."

Orleos stopped when she uttered those words, "Have all the research and valuables moved to the research facility beneath the amusement park and prep the ships there for liftoff. Liquidate all leyas related productions in the facilities, fill in the shaft to the Black Chamber immediately, and give me your key. Have Blackheart's men stand ready to defend the estate and have Prime and Layne's men moved to the facility with the research and move all the Soul Harvesters there as well."

She nodded and spoke while he walked to the lift, "And what will you be doing sir?" Without turning towards her he spoke, "I'm going to get my things and make some calls. We will need help in this Eante, step to and make ready! Time is wasting! Declare a full scale evacuation, all persons willing and able are to make their way to the evacuation centers, load all 10 Freighters up with the populace!"

Stella Ransom read and reread the message sent to her by Eante Vandoslit, personal assistant to Orleos Sacrenine, and could not help but scoff at the sheer audacity that Sacrenine possessed to blatantly deny the accusation when the evidence was so glaringly obvious, but her curiosity was piqued at his mention of 'all others involved' that might have been involved. Was it a threat? If so it was a vaguely worded one, but still, it posed the question of Orleos not being alone in all this, it still smelled like outright bullshit though.

Ransom pulled up the files that she had access to in order to form a report to bring to the High Command. She scanned and copied the personal information that they had on Orleos Sacrenine, she sent a memo to VLAD to pull up any and all information that they had on Orleos Sacrenine, and then she printed the pages necessary.

She sent copies of the report to all the members of the EEF High Command and made her way to Field Marshall Strykker's office, and noticed he was currently staring out the window when she entered, "Sir, I have all the information we have on Sacrenine and I sent a memo to VLAD to dig up anything else they don't already have on the man. Will you be needing anything else sir?"

He turned back from the window, "No, that will be all Stella. We'll get the prisoners back no problem, bring me the extra report when those spooks down at VLAD get their heads outta their asses and dig up the intel on the bastard. Has he given his response to our message yet?"

Stella cleared her throat before speaking, "Yes sir. Sacrenine he sent a message stating that he had knowledge of the plight to the Tsogari, but that he wasn't behind it, he also made it seem like there were other parties involved in this, not sure if it was a threat though. What do you think sir?"

Strykker snorted derisively, "It sounds like the little shit's scared and in a corner, but if he was able to get past us and the IR patrols, then I don't doubt he'd be working alone. He's stupid with the enemies he makes, but smart enough to get by the patrols, he's not a complete idiot. Regardless, send in the SAV and we'll see what he does, we'll give him the 20 minutes we promised, but after that, go in and go in hard. Hit the Sacrenine Estate and neutralize all resistance, find him and the prisoners, simple search and rescue. Understood?"

Ransom saluted, "Sir!"

When she left, Strykker sat down and browsed the report she left on his desk. Staring back at him were pictures of Sacrenine, younger and older, with the words Known VLAD Asset stamped across his face. Strykker chuckled but there was no humor in it, "Go figure, he's an ex-asset. Damn VLAD agents."

Lt. Joe Jackson watched intently as the SAV descended into the docking bay with little to no trouble, Sacrenine hadn't sent any men to 'greet' them, at least any that they noticed. Time passed slowly and silently, men and women alike waited for that moment when shots would ring out and explosions would shake the foundation of their ship, yet none came. Not a single soul was seen or heard from either, the streets were bare from what they could see through the windows, it was almost as if the Moon Base had been deserted.

Jackson turned towards the nearby grunts and officers that were assembled and a holo-projector brought up a map of Quanalithi and the Sacrenine Estate, "Alright rookies, listen up! When that clock hits 20, we move out! Our objective is the prisoners held here, in the mansion of that hoity-toity fop Sacrenine. Intel tells us he's an Ex-VLAD spook, so you can expect that he's one demented son of a bitch! Odds are he will throw anything and everything he can think of at you! Do not hesitate to neutralize any and all threats, but restrain from causing collateral damage. Our fight is with Sacrenine, not the civilians, understood?!"

As one, the grunts and assembled officers saluted, "Sir!"

The Lt. nodded, "At ease! Now prep and be ready to ship out! Hooah!" A chorus of hooah's met his ears and Jackson smiled, the bastard wouldn't know what hit him.

Orleos paced as he awaited the responses he was desperate to hear, however, time was running out, the EEF forces were already here. The Unity Coders that Prime had sent to him were currently waiting to receive the response from their master, while the messenger he had spoken to from the commcrystal that connected him to Admiral Layne was currently trying to locate his mistress.

While the staff had all been sent to the evacuation centers, Eante however, was to remain behind and be the stand-in Director

All but one of the Unity Coders had been moved through the Tunnel System in the sewers that connected the facility beneath his estate to the facility beneath the Amusement Park where Layne's men currently waited. There were only two above ground entrances to his research facilities and he was positive no one would find the Amusement Park's.

The Unity Coder's head turned towards him, "Mister Sacrenine, Metatron Prime has established contact. I will just step aside then." The man's eyes dimmed before coming back to life and focusing on his face, "Director, what is the situation?"

Orleos sighed in relief, "Prime, it is good to hear from you. All pleasantries aside though, you once said all I need do is ask for the protection of the TRILAT and it would be granted to me. I ask for that now. There is an EEF SAV sitting on my doorstep and within the next 20 minutes they will be coming through my streets in order to apprehend me."

The puppet Prime sighed in exasperation and his voice took on the tone of a parent scolding a child, "It would seem you have caused quite the commotion Orleos, however, I will assist you, you have my word. Have you contacted anyone else about your situation?" Orleos nodded, "Yes, I contacted Admiral Layne for assistance, she once told me that if I should need help, I would find it in her and the TRILAT."

Prime's expression proceeded to become a mask of stoicism, inside his head he was calculating the odds and outcomes, "While I believe she would be a powerful ally in this, I believe she should be kept out of this. Her presence may cause the situation to escalate to unnecessary possibilities. However, I will keep her on standby, should the hostilities become beyond our ability to handle. Have you taken precautions regarding the project we agreed upon?"

Orleos sighed in relief, "Yes, Eante is to remain behind and act as Director, and the project remains on schedule, it hasn't been enhanced yet, so the Leyas Sensors will not pick it up and it's true purpose will remain masked. I must say it again, thank you Prime, for all your assistance."

Prime's Puppet chuckled, "Don't thank me yet Orleos, you still have to survive what's coming. After all, you're of no use to anyone if you're dead."

As if to reiterate the point, the sound of gunfire broke out from the front gate, the siege of the Sacrenine Estate had begun.

Lt. Alison Avery stood in front of Eante Vandoslit in the Director's Office of Sacrenine Fine Arts and asked for the third time, "I will ask you again Ms. Vandoslit, where is Director Sacrenine?" In an even tone, the Kumfei replied back, "And I will answer you again Lt. Avery, the Director's location is unknown to me, he has left me in charge of the company in his absence, and has given no indication or instruction otherwise. If I must reiterate this fact to you, then I will, however, I stand by what I have said."

Lt. Avery was hardly deterred, "And what pray tell happened to the populace? Did Sacrenine take them hostage as well in all this?"

Eante rolled her eyes at Avery, "That is hardly the case Lt., the Director has moved the populace into the evacuation centers, in the case that the EEF high command proved to be untrustworthy. Your men have full run of the facilities that are here so long as they do not destroy company property. Now, if there is nothing else, I have paperwork to do."

With that she turned back to the files on the desk and continued to write. Lt. Avery was annoyed that Vandoslit would accuse them of treachery, but she also didn't know if she wanted to laugh. Here they were, occupying the office of the Director, her men of imposing height and weaponry, and this woman was doing paperwork while the world around them was possibly falling apart and barely gave them a glance.

Must be a Kumfei thing, she grasped her radio and spoke into it, "We've secured the Industrial District sir, no sign of Sacrenine, but we've located his assistant, she isn't going anywhere." A response came not even a moment later, "Good work. Keep her there until further notice and sweep the place. Find the prisoners."

*MEANWHILE*

Lt. Jackson stood on top of a coffee shop that overlooked the expanse of road that stood on the outskirts of the Sacrenine Estate, the grunts had made their way to the front gates and were busy prying them open, while the Blackheart Security Guards that had stood on top of the alabaster walls were no longer present, they had been safely neutralized.

They had made barricades from overturned vehicles and were slowly pushing forward, Jackson doubted there would be any casualties at this rate. When the gates were successfully opened, the men and women of EEF poured in, surveying the landscape and taking in the environment.

Jackson barked out "All right rookies! Don't get too excited and go in guns blazing now! Strike Team fall back, secure the perimeter and fortify! Team Delta crack the backdoor open, get to the bastard, Bravo make sure no one's coming out the sides! Beta, get to that hangar in the back and sweep it! Alpha, you're with me, let's go knock on the door and see if anyone's home!"

He jumped from his perch on top of the coffee shop and made his way to the waiting team. From there they made their way to the front door, running from cover point to cover point. Not a single shot met them, it was all to easy and Jackson's gut feeling was telling him that it wasn't over yet, "All teams report. Any resistance?" A resounding set of 'No sir' met his ears. Had the bastard flew the coop?

Back to the wall, he signaled with his fingers to the men next to him, 3...2...1, the doors slammed open and nothing but echoes assaulted them when they rushed in. Jackson and his men swept the foyer, and when his eyes came to the top of the staircase, the smug bastard was smiling down at them from the top of the stairs, "Well, if it isn't the meddling pawns of EEF, I'd welcome you to my home, but you don't seem to be here on a visit, and who will pay for all these damages? I doubt your pitiful salary would even pay for new lawn furniture."

Jackson wanted to do nothing more beat the smile off the other man's face, "You know why we're here Sacrenine, hand over the prisoners and you can go free. One last chance, you can't win this you damn spook!" Orleos merely chuckled, "I have no idea what you're talking about, but I doubt you're going to listen. Besides, who says I'm going to lose anything? To assume is to make an ass of one's self."

Jackson had heard enough, "Take him down!" Shots rang out and flew at Orleos, but when they reached him, his image flickered and they merely passed through him. Jackson scowled, "Where the hell are you hiding coward? Come out and fight like a man or are you so scared you can't meet us face to face?"

Again Orleos laughed at him, "My, my, my, so aggressive, I find that to be quite an appealing quality in a man you know, however, the way you wield aggression is idiotic. As for 'scared shitless', I would prefer the term cautious, if I was truly here I doubt you'd think that. Ah well, stupidity is such a curse, perhaps fate shall be kind and put you out of your misery before we meet? Adieu gentlemen."

When the image before them faded away, Jackson punched the marble wall next to him, leaving behind a deep indent in the shape of his fist, he grabbed his radio and barked into it, "All squadrons, Sacrenine is still here, sweep everywhere, the residential areas, the Northern District, everywhere! All Teams report in, what have you found?"

Bravo One, "Nothing sir!"

Tango One, "Nothing here either sir!"

Beta One, "We've got no contacts here sir."

Delta One, "We've got something here sir, it's Sacrenine's private office. He couldn't have left here more than an hour ago. A glass still has ice in it."

Jackson perked up at that, if he was there less than an hour ago, then that meant he couldn't have been far away, when he had gotten out of the house he barked orders into his radio, "Set up surveillance in his office and his house, sweep the house, top to bottom. Patch all feeds into the Catspaws."

As Jackson and his men were loaded into the transport, he was angered that no one had found the prisoners, yet they had gotten eyes and ears inside Sacrenine's inner-workings. Let the fugitive think he had outdone them now, but sooner than later he would find out just who he was messing with.

*While the prisoners have not been located by the EEF, they now have eyes and ears inside the Sacrenine Estate and hangar, the offices of Sacrenine Fine Arts, barring the Directors office due to the presence of Eante Vandoslit, the Central Plaza, the Amusement park, and have complete surveillance of all hangars into and out of Quanalithi*
