Garmin Fe sends an open invitation to all planets inflicted with the Estrain epidemic.

"To all planets inflicted with Estrain, we come to assist. We however will not come without invitation. We ask that you maintain you quarantine procedures. Do what you must, I will offer to you 50,000 men each to help maintain order and peace and they will answer to your command structure. Meanwhile, we will also offer investigators skilled in nano technology to help discover the source of the problem."

Most Honored General,

This one thanks you for your offer of assistance, but it will not be necessary. We are experiencing no problems at this time. If the situation changes this one will inform you.

Many blessings!

The Estrain on this planet have been incorporated into a small hive below ZIEST where they are being interacted with and studied.

Infection of Estrain Empty Re: Infection of Estrain

“Good morning, Brak!” The grey-robed and green-tinged builder waved cheerfully at the security guard as she descended into the bowels of the Zahazian Institute of Ecosystems Science and Technology. This route was not well traveled, even though the destination was well known. Everyone on Zahaz had eventually found out that a nest of E-strain had taken up residence underneath the ZEIST campus, but very few people knew that the basement janitor’s closet had a false wall.

The eager scientist traveled through a natural cave hallway for man minutes, the rough floor having been filled in with some sort of organic material, perhaps chitin. The corridor sloped steeply downwards, zigzagging back and forth, before opening into a gigantic natural cavern. To her right, the shoreline of an underground lake was barely visible in the soft blue glow of phosphorescent algae being lapped onto the shore – the far reaches of the lake disappeared into a receding mist. To her front and left, a craggy cliff wall was pockmocked by brightly glowing holes.

No electrical cords followed the corridor with her – the light and warmth came from balls of algae and insects suspended by thin, white saphrotrophic vines. The white strand fungi provided attachment, and mined crucial minerals from the cave walls while extracting sugars from the cave algae. The softly glowing algae provided a nesting place for the large pyrowings, whose larvae burrowed deep into the algae and fungal core to emerge as softly flitting moths which ate the bioluminescence amoun the shore, and glowed brightly enough o fuel the algae’s photosynthesis. The pryowings also spread the fruiting bodies of both the white strands and the cave algae, completely a cycle that could only have been intelligently designed. And it really had been, very recently, designed by the Oleiferan Builders at ZEIST.

The scientist savored her walk along the shoreline path, thinking about her aquatic systems designs that might one day be chosen to colonize the almost completely uninhabited lake. She only needed to know a little more about the natural blue algae cycle, so that she could factor in the morbidity rates under large external pressures and…

Lost in her reverie, she almost slammed right into a figure seated on the shorepath. The individual’s quick reaction kept her from falling into the lake, which would have been incredibly painful due to the blue algae’s ability to saponify the lipid membrane of most cells.

“Careful now, Doc, it’s not a good time to be swimming,” the moss-covered creature chortled slowly. The scientist straightened herself and grinned.

“I certainly appreciate the rescue! Thanks, Graves. I’ll catch you for a chat after I take my samples then?”

The creature nodded, and resumed its crosslegged position on the shoreline, staring contentedly into the seething darkness, resembling a mossy boulder. The scientist proceeded along her path, mind filled with ideas and experiments as she neared the gigantic cliff face, each of the hundreds of holes glowing brightly as their peaceful, docile occupants went about their daily tasks of food preparation, meditation, and studies. Some were experimenting with small almost-vertical garden plots, covering the cliff face in various shades of red, purple and dark green. Others were singing in small groups, lead by other grey-robed Builders, while still more were carving intricate patterns into gigantic stalagmites, recording their earliest days of freedom.

Meet the Gaea-Strain.
