its not fair that...

Post  Palomedes on Tue Jun 14, 2011 3:45 pm

I see the watercooler getting filled with specific mission gripes.

You want to gripe, great. I'm sure Admin wants your feedback.
Respectfully I don't . So I created this OOC thread so gripes and counter gripes can be placed here.
This way the watercooler can return to being funny commentary and OOC asides (credit to Lil by the way)

This is all OOC

Who said anything about a master assassin? With Maehl one died the other barely escaped with his life, with Ryuk they all failed

Again like I mentioned before less frustration and more confusion, the fact that Strykker agrees with the assessment shows it isn't just complaining. If people who have been around the system for years and years even before the space game even existed are confused by how the things worked then it is a bit odd.

Also, the IR wasn't the only faction that stuff like that happened to, I personally believe that the IR players got shafted many times in the name of telling a "better story"

But you want these types of gripes to be in a different thread, so it shall be. I shall kick off the return of light hearted antics for this thread.

Two points first i mentioned master assassin because you wrote he is second in command of the assassins group. Do newbies get a job as leaders usually in your core of assassins?

Second how do you define shafted? Because I think you are confusing not always Winning with being shafted.

Lol its not fair the unity gets a self generating vpd while the universe itself is stacked against making them (can't buy em, pretty much impossible to make them, the ir can onljy rarely deploy them).

No, I am not confusing that at all. I have been playing since the boarder wars and I have faced more then my share of defeats. If losing really bothered me I would have quit a long time ago.

As for being second in command of an assassins group, you don't know the man's past. He could have been a veteran assassin before he joined the Horned dog. Do we know how Timothy 12 is a sword master? Do we know how where those Master vampires serving Layne Yr came from? Nope, we don't they just kinda show up.

I define getting shafted when something completely out of the ordinary happens with no actual explanation as to why. Yes we can always say that a secret group has manipulated things from the shadows. That is indeed possible, but not always the case. Sometimes logic just gets in the way of a fun story. Sometimes a story teller pushes aside what makes sense and puts in what would be fun. Like when Maehl decided to be in his office and not in the castle of the Zadoni. He would have been quite safe there and nothing was implied that he wasn't there. Of course that would have negated Prime, Garmen Fe, and my post as we were all in his office and such Maehl didn't do it.
Sometimes the Temporal Empire changes things that will mess up a player, sometimes they didn't.

The very idea that you shouldn't question anything is just silly. Accepting everything at face value just makes you seem gullible.

LeftenantRyuk wrote:As they did Ryuk hit the ground hard.

Actually he was rendered unconscious, he was never killed Razz The goal was never to kill but to seize thus they failed. But that is alright, i figured that they would. I was shocked they even got that far heh heh.

Ar'yay, since when does admin explain everything??? What doesn't make sense today can end up making sense in a month. Like when last space wars on esiroh ppl kept grinding my employees into meat no matter how often I killedthem. It took me a month to realize that a player had been thwarting me and then it suddenly all made sense.

To give a fictional equivalent, robert jordan was famous for writing things that didn't make sense until four books later...sometime seven.

When having to pull together ten ppls actions into coherent writing, sometimes certain dtls have to be left out..sometimes they are purposefully left out. Its what creates the next lvl of role play. For example, my character prolly doesn't know who tried to kill him yet. If it weren't for the fact that I saw you post, id have no idea. And perhaps that would have been better?? Who knows??

So the question really remains: why does it matter to know how or why you were thwarted? If you are personally unsure, ask admin. I.e. what factors, accordin to my assasin, caused him to fail?? That way you know how to report internally and adjust tactics next time.

My two cents...

You want us to believe that that guy was a master assassin on Druzi prime then within 6weeks became second in command sure fine its your subordinates you can run them how u want.

No one is saying you can't challenge Admin. But we also get to reply if any of us disagree with your ideas of what's proper. I think what Palo mine is saying is that this whole gripe (good word choice) about the Stilletos comes from peeps unhappy when they fd in the a by the pirates they brought down on themselves. You say unless I'm reading wrong that the Def of screwed is when the GM doing something that don't make sense to you for the sake of story.

That's called railroading . And I ain't seen it in this situation.

I see you starting a fight with NPCs that didn't go after u, then you unhappy they ambushed you.
Then because you can't accept that you didn't send a rear guard with your fleet. Same on the IR thread. You wanna add defenses that weren't there.

But hey if we are encouraged to bitch about unfair stuff I got a list as long as my hair which is pretty long. Metal Heads 4 life!!

Thank you Pal for making this thread.

I think its unfair that I can't deploy Blackhole bombs because the player playing captain Magnus during space 2 stole them and used them fer evil (well at least more evil than my plans for them)

This Estrain threat wouldnt be a prob if I could just launch those sweet sweet toys.

I think its unfair that the Independent Corps can make money left and right even when we see them breaking IR laws. And that the HiveQueens have unlimited gemstones to pay them
But I don't even get an expense account when my Deer controls a whole fking sector of space.

True, somethings are explained in times while some aren't. Some are caused by not being clear about what you want, others are caused by the Admin either misreading your post or simply not noticing it.

I don't mind failing in a mission, i have failed in many. Maybe the fighters will be explained next week, maybe never. Doesn't mean we cannot discuss it.
I have had missions where actions were never used in the mission, when i asked the admin and point it out, i have gotten responses of "oh, i didn't notice that". You don't know when something was counter acted by a player or simply the Admin was so overworked he didn't notice it. Therefore it is your responsibility to question things that seem off to you because you never know if it was intentional or a misunderstanding.

#1 please do not quadruple post, if you have more to say edit your post.

#2 You have the capability to use those weapons, your character would just be in trouble if he did. There are not physical restraints preventing you from using planet killer missiles, you just look at the consequences of using them and choose not to. Also your character can produce far more then I could ever buy (plus it would look quite bad if the IR generals were buying from the black market i.e screwing over yourself) Every character has strengths and weaknesses, you have unlimited ground troops you could lose a hundred million brethren and barely even blink. You like most players have a home world that is totally safe i.e cannot be attacked. I am one of the two only players who are able to be completely exterminated i.e losing everything including my home base.
You have one of the most powerful military in the game (actually you are the singularly strongest player in the game) no other single player can match your fleets or armies. Your average ship can wipe the floor with the equivalent of mine. With a good battle plan one on one no one could beat your fleet unless they pulled an amazing plan out of their butts.

Deer is anti social and relies too much on WMDs if he worked better with his allies and organized battle plans for attacks with the size of his force he could dominate

Not true at all I literally cannot deploy them. It's not a consequence thang, its the GM telling me You can't use these things until you get a pm or post from Board saying so.

I'm not even touching your dis of my character, I got an equal number of valid complaints bout yours but I'm trying to keep it on topic. And the topic is unfair stuff the Admin did.

My posts were diff thoughts so I made it easier 4 peeps that wanna quote it.

I've had to get IC clearence to deploy nukes from Colony General Malthus each time as well. It just hasn't been done in view of other characters.

Which is probably the case with many things that seem unfair something else is going on you and your character don't know about. Maybe it wil get explained maybe it won't.

Oooh my this is a fun addition.

I think its unfair that I wasn't allowed to join Space 3 until someone rescued my character from the Prison of Mandate.

It was so mean making me wait and watch while everyone else was having so much fun.

It does make sense why the Narrator did it, but its very cathartic to gripe about it.

Has any seen The Grapist on you tube? we need the Gripist!

Why I like the Lion brand haterade

Post  UnityPrime on Wed Jun 15, 2011 3:27 am

Hey now, to be fair, you've served an AMAZING glass of haterade. I love this stuff.

However, from a narrative perspective, your actions have actually brought things to a really interesting head! What your guy did regarding those pirates, in the grand scheme of things, was pretty trivial. I mean hell, take some of my meaner moments, or, I don't know, a Tuesday in Layne Yr ruled Kassanth, and you will find that giving some pirates to the Quall is no big deal.

I think the difference, though, is the expectation of how a player whose name shows up in green (EEF aligned) is supposed to act. Part of why the pirates were willing to go along was because the EEF's reputation is generally one of plucky freedom fighters, determined to free people from the evils of the Iron Republic.

Your actions, in a real way, may be a wake up call for the EEF as a group. Even though your fleet is small, your actions have changed the entire course of the game! Its kind of amazing, when you take it in that light.

Like when the smallest factions in the game (The Indies) decided destiny when Druzi was a hot spot, it was ridiculous the kind of impact being in the right place at the wrong time can have.

At the same time I see Lions point. Seeing as the pirates have proven to be more loyal than any other faction (two weeks out and only now are ideas like being bought coming into the pirates mind because it turns out instead of their being no honor among thieves there is fanatical honor among them), and have tactical capabilities every other faction can only dream of (IE: The Stilletto Rush, which I guarantee in a "They show up, you die" if used by a player) it does feel like the Terrible Trio has been antagonized needlessly a little bit.
