Dear Field Marshall Strykker,

I am writing to you as a courtesy, in light of the past courtesies you have given me. The Free Systems have recently named General Vulfrym as a wanted terrorist for violation of Temporal Empire law. His apprehension is worth several million ghaz. Therefore, I had wanted to advise you that General Vulfrym's entry into the Free Systems is prohibited and any ship bearing his emblem caught entering Free Systems territory will be considered a breach of the treaty of 2219, his ships will be fired upon, and the criminal will be brought to justice. Furthermore, there is a bounty on his head that will be paid should he be captured and turned over to the Temporal Empire.

I extend this courtesy to you as an advisement, as to prevent an intergalactic incident should you choose to send General Vulfrym into Free Systems territory or should he take it upon himself to do so. I wish no ill will or animosity between the EEF or the Free Systems. I had also wanted to assure you that no ship bearing Free Systems is to chase after any known whereabouts of General Vulfrym beyond our territory.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with ny further questions.

Yours sincerely, Su Maehl of the Free Systems.

Mr. Maehl,

The Treaty of 2219 is between the Iron Republic and Refuge I don't think it really applies in any way shape or form to the Free Systems. Unless my JAG office has misinformed me. That aside I do appreciate the notice. I would however be curious as to what exactly the General has done to be branded in such a way? I realize he has committed some questionable actions but nothing that I would consider truly criminal or I'd have him up on charges myself.

Field Marshall Strykker,

I've reviewed the treaty myself, and you are absolutely right. I have just fired the individuals responsible for true legal gaffe. I apologize for the error.

Again, the advisement is intended to prevent problems more than threaten you with retalitory action. I was hoping to leverage the treaty as a means to avoid conflict and mutual agression. While I see the Temporal Empire were signatories of the Peace of Falos, I have no idea how valid that accord is. However, in response to your question, General Vulrym is wanted for the illegal use of time shredding as well as bringing about unjust harm to 5000 Free Systems citizens by capturing them and giving them to the Qual Ndrone for larval implantation. These crimes are unforgivable, particularly the latter, and thus the price on his head.

Again, Field Marshal, the Free Systems do wish to maintain peace with the EEF, and the Temporal Empire does not wish, as I am aware, harm upon the entirity of the EEF. It is for this reason I contact you, and hope you dissuade General Vulfrym from entering Free Systems territory.

Yours Sincerely,

Mr. Maehl,

I'll take this under advisement and thank you for the information. To large extent General Vulfrym does as he will so I can't say for certain he won't enter Free Systems space. I would however ask what would the Free systems have done with the pirates had they been captured? I know if they'd brought back to Refuge they'd have faced a trial for their crimes (mass murder and theft) and, if convicted executed and given final death. Don't get me wrong I'm not entirely pleased with his handling of them either but surely their own legal status should figure into this. Speaking of legal status. I notice that more and more you seem to be speaking for all of the Free Systems and I can't but wonder who's authority you've been acting under?

Dear Field Marshall Strykker,

With regards to the McConnels, their crime was against the Iron Republic in the Bretheren Expanse. It was also against a people they felt had wronged them. The hadn't yet returned to the Free Systems, nor had the Iron Republic requested their capture. As such, they should have been left to their own devices unless the Iron Republic thought it prudent to request their capture. Furthermore, it isn't clear to me that an actual Iron Republic company was attacked. As such, I'm not quite sure what the crime was and, in this case, if larval implantation would have been suitable punishment, if any at all.

To make matters worse, as I am aware, no Iron Republic forces were part of the assault on the McConnels. In fact it was a religious order that was involved, whose allegiance to the Iron Republic was questionable, at best. Therefore, if there was a crime committed at all, it was for the Iron Republic to handle, not someone offering an olive branch and sale to the Quall. While I do not condone the behavior of the McConnels in exacting their revenge, the ends do not justify the means, and a trial was warranted in accordance to the law.

That little tangent aside, to answer your question regarding speaking on behalf of all the Free Systems, I don't. Just as you only speak for the EEF military, and not every planetary governor in the Draco System. That said, questions of power and authority in the Free Systems are... complicated. Especially as it pertains to me. I can say this to you, Field Marshall, my words carry significant weight and legitimacy. I apologize for the ambiguity, but I'm afraid that's the best I can offer you considering the circumstances. Are you asking because you are concerned that I am blowing smoke up your butt, or because of another reason? If there is something I can do for you, where I can provide some assistance in the Free Systems, please let me know.

I appreciate your candidness, Field Marshall. I hope we can continue to be so, as I fear we will require each other's assistance in the future. I also hope General Vulfrym does nothing we might both end up regretting. Best of luck in the EEF's endeavors.

Yours sincerely,
Su Maehl, on behalf of the Free Systems
