Fare Well, Noble Opponent

Post  UnityPrime on Sat Apr 30, 2011 1:04 am

Prime grimaced as his wounds were quickly closed. He had lost...but it had been a long time since he was so challenged. The cuts stung, but were worth it.

"You mistake my position General. The Unity has no king, all is done by consensus in the old Greek form. My opinions are simply well respected. You saved lives today, Palmodes, and I wish we had the time to sit and talk in the tradition of Unity duels."

A portal ripped open behind Prime's bare-chested form, revealing a pitch black expanse that seemed to go into forever. Two dark metal limbs emerged from the portal, holding a sheathed slim blade reminiscent of a broadsword. Prime took it in one hand, and tossed it to Palmodes.

"A ceremonial harmonic blade. One of the first five made. The next time we cross swords, may it be with these. Fare well Palmodes."

Prime went through the portal, which slammed shut behind him as the crowd erupted in a fresh cacophony of cheers for Palmodes

Palomedes continued to bow a few times, then motioned for a mic. They passed him the wand, and he said, "Thank you, people of the Audience. People watching at home. Thank you. As you watch the vids of this battle on your mobile devices in the days to come I hope you will note something very important.
My honored opponent, Prime of Unity, bled on the sand of this arena. He bled his lifeblood. And had enough of it been drained he would have died. This is a twofold lesson for you. The first is that our enemies in the TRILAT can bleed, which means we can defeat them.
The second is that while their goals and ours may be at odds, they are not so different from ourselves. Excess cruelty and hatred towards them is inappropriate. We will crush them when they put our citizens in danger, but there is no reason to hate them.
We must strive to be more open minded, more tolerant and more creative in our approach to new lifeforms."

Palomedes will accept the Harmonic blade and after it is checked and rechecked for bugs, traps, and all manner of booby prize, then Sector General Palomedes will wear it from that day forward.
